Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a long-term respiratory disease that affects the airways and lungs, making it difficult for people to breathe. It is one of the leading causes of illness and death worldwide and has a significant impact on the quality of life of millions of individuals. COPD is commonly associated with smoking, but it can also develop due to long-term exposure to air pollution, occupational dust and chemicals, biomass fuel smoke, and genetic factors. As the disease progresses, patients may experience persistent cough, breathlessness, frequent respiratory infections, and reduced lung function, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate clinical management.

This session will provide a comprehensive overview of COPD, from its underlying mechanisms and risk factors to current approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and long-term disease management.
